Planned job cuts declined to the second lowest level of the year during August. A recent report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas found that employers announced a total of 76,456 layoffs last month, a 21 percent decrease from the 97,373 job cuts announced during July. This is the sixth time during the last seven months that job cuts declined from the previous month. …

During July, planned job cuts by American employers increased 31 percent to 97,373. This was the first increase in monthly job cuts since January, according to a report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.
